*\*\*PAID TRAINING\*\** *\*\*LOOKING FOR SUBSTITUTES \*\** *INTRODUCTION* Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) need people in their lives who provide them with assistance on learning life skills, completing daily tasks that most people take for granted and providing them with safe living environments.
The professionals who provide this help and training are known as direct support professionals (DSP’s) and at Midland are our Support Counselors.
The Support Counselor role supports the day-to-day activities of individuals in the Midland Adult Services (MAS) Residential Division.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the direct care of supported individuals and their main duties include helping people complete basic housekeeping tasks, transporting people to appointments or other social outings and keeping residents safe from potential health hazards in their surrounding environment.
_\*\*\*Midland Group Homes are located in Branchburg, Hillsborough and Bernardsville, New Jersey\*\*\*_ *RESPONSIBILITIES* *Assistance and Behavioral Support* * Supporting, teaching and assisting the adults we serve in addition to respecting their homes; * Assisting individuals with daily tasks, including personal care, medication and household chores such as meal preparation, laundry and cleaning; * Assists individuals in the pursuit of recreational, social and community activities based on their preferences and individual plans; * Observing individuals for any behavioral changes, including compassion and being sensitive to their emotional needs, as needed; * Advocate for the rights of individuals in Midland residences and fostering independence; *Administrative* * Attention to detail regarding Unusual Incident Reporting (UIR) documentation, Medication Administration Records (MAR), Electronic Health Record (EHR) system; * Monitor and assist with health and medical care for individuals, as needed; * Work with families/guardians to ensure quality services are being delivered.
*Other* * Knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook; * Ability to utilize computer software programs, including Electronic Health Record (EHR) system; * Assist in the lifting and transferring of individuals; * Knowledge of Crisis Intervention Techniques; * Ability to maintain confidentiality.
*REQUIREMENTS* * Must be at least 18 years of age or older; * High School diploma or equivalent; * Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (driver’s abstract is conditional on hire); * Ability to establish comfortable and supportive relationships; * Prior experience working with intellectually and/or developmentally disabled individuals (more than 1 year is highly preferred); * Self-motivated team players with a positive, energetic and professional demeanor is highly preferred; * Must be able to complete all required residential training/certification and successfully maintain training/certification(s) throughout tenure with Midland; * Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; * Ability to sit/stand for extended periods; * Ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
